I knew I shouldn’t have been there, but I couldn’t help myself. The cliff fell away beneath my feet, my heels the only thing on solid ground. The wind flung out my silver hair into a long stream behind me, flinging it out of my silver eyes. The waves, hundreds of meters below me, crashed against the rocks with enough force to break any corpse foolish enough to fall into a thousand pieces.
Everything that had happened had brought me to this.
Forgive me sister. I don’t think I’ll be able to come home tonight.
James, I don’t want you to blame yourself for this. I’m here because I want to be. I’m here because I wanted to be with you.
My hands are blistered and sore from clinging to the rocks for so long. I can feel my grip loosening, my fingers sliding, millimetre by millimetre. I cannot hold on. So, I decide to stop fighting.
I release my grip on the rocks. I let go, to fall down to the sea below. As I fall, before I land, I open my wings.
And I fly.

I sighed, looking around for James. I’ve been waiting here for an hour, and he’s still no here. I’ve been stood up, haven’t I? He never meant to go climbing with me, did he? I sighed again, grinding my teeth. I can’t go climbing alone. I would be stupid. Idiotic even. I knew I shouldn’t, but I just couldn’t help myself. I started to climb.

I struggle in vain to wipe the grin off my face as he walks away. It’s been far too long since I have been climbing. Nobody wants to climb as high as I do, and it is foolish to climb alone. But tomorrow I will be climbing with James. It is almost too much to believe. James, the James, the guy I have had the largest crush on for years. I just have to tell Alicia about this.

James came running up, face red, gasping for breath, just in time to see her fall………
